Louisiana Requirements Overview:

Louisiana's (LA) CPA exam requirements are very specific relating to accounting and business courses that are required to be taken prior to sitting for the exam. You must also be a resident of LA to sit for the exam.

Follow each caption below to ensure that you are qualified to sit for the exam.

Education Requirements

What are the education requirements in Louisiana?

150 Hours Requirement

LA requires 150 hours or graduate degree

Accounting Course Requirements

LA requires:
-24 semester hours from undergraduate programs or 
-21 graduate level semester hours

Business Course Requirements

LA requires 24 semester hours of business courses other than accounting including Commercial Law suitable for the CPA Exam

Business Law Requirements

LA does not have a specific business law requirement

What are the age and residency requirements in Louisiana?

US Citizenship Requirement

You are NOT Required for Louisiana to be US Citizen to sit for the CPA exam

Residency Requirement

In Louisiana, you ARE required to be a resident, employee, OR have an office in the state in order to sit for the CPA exam.

Minimum Age to Sit for the CPA Exam

Louisiana does not have a minimum age requirement to sit for the CPA exam

Louisiana has fairly standard exam fee rates. If you need to re-take a part there is a varying re-application fee that you will have to pay.

Already Passed The CPA Exam in Louisiana? Here Are The CPA License Requirements

To obtain your CPA license LA requires:

Education: Complete required 150 credit hours noted above.

Work Experience: 1 year of public or non-public accounting experience
* Minimum of 2,000 hours
* Experience needs to be verified by an active CPA
* Experience must be gained within 4 years preceding applying for your license.
