Nevada Requirements Overview:

Nevada's (NV) CPA exam requirements are very specific relating to accounting and business courses that are required to be taken prior to sitting for the exam.

Follow each caption below to ensure that you are qualified to sit for the exam.

Education Requirements

What are the education requirements in Nevada?

150 Hours Requirement

NV requires a Bachelor degree or above and 150 hours

Accounting Course Requirements

NV requires 30 semester hours that may include:

  • Financial Accounting (Intermediate I, II, III or advanced): 9 credits
  • Cost Accounting: 3 credits
  • Auditing: 3 credits
  • Federal Income Tax: 3 credits
  • Accounting Electives: 12 credits 

Business Course Requirements

NV requires 24 semester hours of undergrad or graduate classes excluding accounting hours

Business Law Requirements

NV requires 3 semester hours of business law

Ethics Exam

Rules of Professional Conduct (Ethics) exam taken within the last 3 years. Recommend taking the AICPA Ethics Exam to complete this requirement.


Age & Residency Requirements

What are the age and residency requirements in Nevada?

US Citizenship Requirement

You are NOT Required for Nevada to be US Citizen to sit for the CPA exam. A SSN is not required to become licensed either. Contact the State Board to obtain an identification # for your application.

Residency Requirement

Nevada does NOT require you to be a resident, employee, OR have an office in the state for you to take the CPA exam.

Minimum Age to Sit for the CPA Exam

Nevada does not have a minimum age requirement to sit for the CPA exam

How much does it cost to take the CPA exam in Nevada?

Nevada has fairly standard exam fee rates. If you need to re-take a part there is a $50.00 re-application fee that you will have to pay.

Already Passed The CPA Exam in Nevada? Here Are The CPA License Requirements

Education Requirements:
* Same requirements as what is needed to sit for the CPA exam. 

Work Experience Requirements:
* To obtain your CPA license NV requires at least 2 years of public accounting experience (1,000 hours in attest - 700 of which must be audit). 
* Experience must be supervised by a US CPA only and IRS and internal audit experience may qualify.
