West Virginia's (WV) CPA exam requirements are very specific relating to accounting and business courses that are required to be taken prior to sitting for the exam.

Follow each caption below to ensure that you are qualified to sit for the exam.

Education Requirements

What are the education requirements in West Virginia?

150 Hours Requirement

WV does not require 150 hours to sit for the exam, but will require 150 credit hours to become licensed.  

Accounting Course Requirements

WV requires 27 semester hours in upper division accounting courses.  

Business Course Requirements

WV requires 27 semester hours excluding accounting hours and 3 hours of Ethics related classes.

Business Law Requirements

WV requires 6 semester hours of business law.

Ethics Exam

Required to obtain at least 3 credit hours of ethics classes.

What are the age and residency requirements in West Virginia?

US Citizenship Requirement

You are NOT Required for West Virginia to be US Citizen to sit for the CPA exam, but a SSN# is required to sit for the exam.  

Residency Requirement

West Virginia does NOT require you to be a resident, employee, OR have an office in the state for you to take the CPA exam.  

Minimum Age to Sit for the CPA Exam

West Virginia does not have a minimum age requirement to sit for the CPA exam

West Virginia has fairly standard exam fee rates. If you need to re-take a part there is a $40.00 re-application fee that you will have to pay.

Already Passed The CPA Exam in West Virginia? Here Are The CPA License Requirements

To obtain your CPA license WV requires:

Education: 
- Complete 150 credit hours which includes 120 hour bachelor degree with an accounting concentration or equivalent

Work Experience:
- 1 year of full-time experience in public or non-public accounting. 
- Part-time work is accepted (as shown in the application form). 
- The experience must be verified by an active CPA licensee. It does not indicate that the experience has to be supervised by a CPA.
